Highlights

Poland saw a decrease in transaction volumes in Q4 2019 vs Q4 2018 (49 vs 63), which is likely driven by temporary uncertainty over election results last Autumn – as there was no surprise in results, the deal making activity is back at full speed in early 2020.

The most active sector was TMT, accounting for approximately 25% of total transactions for the period – and with 50% of all buyers foreign, this indicates strong interest from foreign buyers in one of the largest European markets, with c. 40m population and continent-leading GDP growth rate.

Despite reduced activity, financial sponsors saw increased acquisition activity and were responsible for around 15% of all deals in the period – demonstrating the financial sponsor conviction that secular macro trends in the region are likely to drive high returns in long term.
